Yes! We provide access to free eBooks and audiobooks through OverDrive and OneClickDigtal.

We also offer streaming movies, music, audiobooks, eBooks, and comics through hoopla.

What are the Friends of The Brookfield Library?2016-11-17T16:26:56-05:00

The Friends of The Brookfield Library was formed to give members of the community a way to personally support the library. It is a not-for-profit organization that raises funds intended to help develop the library’s resources beyond what is provided through the town budget. Your membership contribution will help the Friends to provide materials, equipment, and programs for the library so that it may better serve you and your family.

The Friends’ fundraising events include:

  • An autumn book sale
  • An on-going used book sale
  • A holiday gift-givers book sale

On-Going Book Sale
The on-going book sale is housed on the main floor of the library, to the right of the entry doors. You’ll find mysteries, thrillers, romances, children’s books, teen books, DVDs, CDs, and more. Great selection at bargain prices!

Books Needed!
The Friends are seeking books in good condition to stock both its on-going and special sales. Donated books sell quickly due to bargain prices, so more are always needed. Do you need room for new books on your shelves? Are there books your children have outgrown? Please consider donating your gently-treated used books to the Library. We accept donations March – September, and all donations are tax deductible. Call the Library (203-775-6241, ext. 101) for more information.

Yes. Residents of Brookfield who are unable to come to the library due to illness (short-term or long-term), disability, or non-driver status are eligible for this program.

The following materials are available for delivery:

  • Books on CD
  • Instructional Audio CDs

  • Compact Discs
  • Magazines

Regular deliveries will be scheduled at your convenience.

Yes, we have a microfilm and fiche reader available for public use. We also have The Brookfield Journal and The Housatonic Times on microfilm from March 1957 forward.

Yes, we have Notaries on staff and are pleased to offer this service at a charge of $3.00 per document notarized.

Criteria that The Brookfield Library Notaries follow:

– Customer must sign document(s) in front of Notary. (Notaries cannot sign documents unless they are certain that the customer is who he/she purports to be.)
– Customer must provide Notary with valid photo identification and one other form of identification.
– A document to be notarized must consist of a legal form. (It cannot be a handwritten piece of paper.)
– Each Notary will each maintain a journal wherein each transaction will be noted.
– If a state referred to in the document is other than Connecticut, a Notary must cross out the state cited and replace it using the state of Connecticut. Notaries in the library hold credentials only in Connecticut.
– Information to be notarized must appear on the document pages. (Notaries will not notarize blank pages or pages not related to the body of the document.)

Yes, library staff will be happy to send a fax for you. There is a charge of $1.00/page; this does not include the cover page, which is free.

From Route 7/202 North or South
Follow Route 7/202 North or South until it intersects with Route 25 in Brookfield. Turn onto Route 25 South. The Library is approximately 1.5 miles from this intersection, on the right/West side of Route 25.

From I-84 Westbound
Take Exit 9 (Route 25). At bottom of the ramp, turn right onto Route 25 North and follow for approximately 4 miles, to the intersection of Routes 25 and 133 (double traffic lights). The Library is 2/10 of a mile North of this intersection on the left (just past St. Paul’s Episcopal Church).

From I-84 Eastbound
Take Exit 9 (Route 25). At bottom of ramp, turn left onto Route 25 North and proceed as above.

First, please search the catalog that includes all libraries in our system.

If no libraries in our system own a particular item you need, we will try to borrow it for you from another library. Fill out an Interlibrary Loan Form or ask for assistance at the Information Desk. You may also call the Information Desk at 203-775-6241, extension 103.

You can use your card at any public library in the State of Connecticut!

You may also return your Brookfield items to any public library in Connecticut and may also return other Connecticut public libraries’ materials to Brookfield. We will send them back to the owning library.

All items except DVDs, Museum Passes, Wireless Hotspots, & Fitbits – 10¢ per day ($5.00 maximum per item)

All DVDs – $1.00 per day ($10.00 maximum per item)

Museum Passes – $10.00 per day

Wireless Hotspots & Fitbits – $5.00 per day

Fines are not charged for any day the library is closed.

To avoid late charges, please renew or return materials promptly. Fines stop accumulating once the materials are returned or renewed. The library has outside book drops for your convenience.

If your card is carrying accumulated fines or lost charges of $20.00 or more, you will not be able to check out items until fines are paid. If your library card is lost, a replacement card will be issued for a fee of $1.00.

Yes, library materials may be renewed twice, in person, by telephone, or online. DVDs that check out for 1 week may be renewed 1 time. Museum passes, wireless hotspots, and Fitbits are not renewable.

When renewing by telephone please:

  • Have your library card available;
  • Call during the library’s business hours;
  • Do not leave a telephone message; renewals left on voicemail will not be processed.

Reasons why your renewal may not be successful:

  • Another patron has requested the item.
  • Item is so severely overdue that it is considered lost.
  • Fines or lost item fees on your card exceed $20.00.
  • The item has been borrowed for you from another library, and the lending library may not allow renewals.

There are no limits to the number of items a person may borrow, except for new DVDs (owned less than 6 months), where the limit is 4 per family and children’s holiday books, where the limit is 3 per family.

Yes, library cards expire every three years. Please report any change of address, email, or telephone number as soon as possible.

Library cards are free for residents of Brookfield and will be issued on the day of application.

For an Adult Card:

Brookfield residents age 14 and over are issued adult cards. You will be asked to complete an application and verify your current address with one of the following:

• A current Connecticut driver’s license;

• A document showing a current Brookfield address (rental lease, property deed, phone or utility bill, property tax receipt, postmarked mail, etc.);

• A checkbook with pre-printed address;

• A student ID card or parent’s proof of residency.

For a Child Card:

A child under age 14 may have his/her own library card. The child’s parent or guardian will be asked to complete and sign the application card for the child, assuming financial responsibility for any fines or lost charges. If the parent or guardian does not have a current Brookfield library card, proof of residency will be required (see above).
