Oscar Film Series: Captain Phillips

Film showing of Captain Phillips, directed by Paul Greengrass and starring Tom Hanks and Barkhad Abdi.  The film is based on the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, which was the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years.

6 Academy Award Nominations:  Best Picture; Best Supporting Actor (Barkhad Abdi); Adapted Screenplay (Billy Ray); Film Editing; Sound Editing; and Sound Mixing.
